The Best Places To Live in Portland

The Best Places To Live in Portland

Here are a few of the best places to live around Portland, Oregon.

The first question you’ll want to consider is whether you want to live in the country, the suburbs, or the city. My wife and I love just how many options there are for great places to live. We currently live in the east side, but we could move downtown, out into the country to have more space, or to the suburbs to be near great schools and have more elbow room.

Let’s talk about living in the city first. There are three main areas: downtown, Pearl District, and the inner east and west sides. Downtown and Pearl District have tons of walkable areas with lots of restaurants and museums. There are more townhomes and condos here, but you can find some single-family homes.

The inner ease side is great because it’s still walkable. It’s not as walkable as the downtown area, but it is still known for its great retail centers. If you want to be close to coffee or restaurants, the east side is a great option. There are also a lot more single-family homes out there.

The inner west side tends to be a bit more hilly. Homes in this area trend more toward suburban living; there’s not much walkability, and there are only a few retail areas. However, the inner west side is still a beautiful place to live.

The suburbs surrounding Portland have a lot of subtle differences. Some of them can feel pretty similar, so the best thing to do is have a conversation with a friend, family member, or Realtor who knows the subtle differences. A few things to think about would be your proximity to family, school districts, your work, the feel of the town you want, and your price point.

There are amazing opportunities in any direction out in the country. If you go east, you could live in Sandy or Estacada as you grow nearer the mountains. Out west, Hillsboro, Forest Grove, or Scappoose are all great towns to pick as you head closer to the coast. Up north, you get closer to Mount Saint Helens and Mount Adams. Down south, you’ve got a lot of beautiful, open land.
Whatever you’re looking for, you should consult with a Realtor who can help you find the right spot for you. If I can help you in any way, feel free to call or email me. I’d love to hear from you.
